The difference between the machine and other similar devices is that the grinding wheel rotates horizontally, is located on a support platform and is closed with a lid, in which there is a small oval hole sufficient for sharpening samples with dimensions up to 115x65 mm2 in plan. The side walls of the hole are closed with a frame. The gap between the frame and the grinding wheel is about 1 mm. When sharpening, the sample is pressed against the side surface of the frame in the direction of rotation of the circle, which is indicated by a pointer. The design of the machine "Corund-300" provides for dust removal using a household or industrial vacuum cleaner. It is provided to turn on the power of the vacuum cleaner at the same time as turning on the grinding machine, which increases efficiency in work. The machine cover is easy to open, which significantly speeds up the replacement of the wheel. The machine is powered by a single-phase AC network and is equipped with a sufficiently powerful motor.

For sharpening samples of the "fungus" type, thin and sheet samples, and other non-standard samples, there are sets of different holders. A universal device "Vacuum holder of thin samples" for holding such samples has also been developed. It is based on the principle of a suction cup with a constant suction of air through a special micro pump. It can be delivered on an additional order.
